20-Year Celebration of Spirit Center “Taegosa” <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Jogye Order Korean Temple and International Zen Center in Tehachapi

On Sunday, September 14th, 2014 from 11am – 1pm, Mountain Spirit Center (“Taegosa”) will mark its 20-year anniversary with a public ceremony.

Located at 8400 Juniper Way in Tehachapi CA, Mountain Spirit Center was founded in 1994 by Erik Berall (MuryangSunim), a Zen practitioner and student of Zen Master SeungSahn. The temple, considered a modern masterpiece of design, “off-the-grid” sustainability, spirituality, and wellbeing, was built by practicing people, Zen students, and the Korean community of Los Angeles, California, Korea, and worldwide over 10+ years as a place for people to practice meditation and sincerely pursue awakening for the benefit of all beings.

The anniversary festivities will begin on Saturday evening at 7pm with a traditional Tea Ceremony and movie screening of “On the way,” a Korean documentary following the Zen life of three Korean Buddhist nuns.On Sunday, the main event will begin at 11am with a short ceremony including Tai Chi Chuan demonstration, Korean pop dance, and singing performance, followed by a Temple Festival and vegetarian lunch at noon. There will also be an opportunity for people to light a candle and make a wish, and a photo display of the 20 years history.

태고사 는 금년20 주년을 맞이하여 다양한 행사를 개최 하고자 합니다. 먼저 13일 에 열리는 전야제 행사는 다도시현과 “길 위에서”의 영화 상영을 합니다. 그리고 행사 당일 14일에는 간단한 20주년 축하 법회와 한국 사찰음식 시식회와 축하 공연을 계획 하고 있습니다. 이와 더불어 촛불의식 행사와 태고사 20년의 역사를 둘러 볼수 있는 사진전이 개최 됩니다.

이번 행사를 통해 한인 불자들 뿐 아니라 현지 미국인들에게 한국불교를 알리고 태고사의 건재함을  알리는 기회를 삼고자 합니다. 준비한 행사는 한국불교 문화의 알림의 장이 될 뿐 아니라, 미국 현지인과의 화합의 장이 되는 것 또한 중요한 취지 입니다.
