Jingaksa Temple, Brazil(Abbot Ven. Bojang): At the Sunday dharma talk on June 11, “The
5th Jingaksa Scholarship” award ceremony was held. One Korean student and two Brazilian students
received this year’s scholarship.

The Korean recipient, Kim Joon-soo is a considerate student with a warm heart, excellent academic record as well as high respect for his parents. One of the Brazilian students, Mateus also has a considerate heart and has been not only serving as a interpreter spreading knowledge about Korean Buddhism but also dedicated in his practice and academic career. Although Carolina, the other Brazilian student, has speech and hearing disabilities, she has not given up on her academic career achieving high grades. She has also been dedicated in her practice with
compassionate heart.

Abbot Ven. Bojang stated that, “Though the amount of the scholarship maybe small, I sincerely pray that may everyone reach the path of wisdom by sharing happiness and encouraging the recipients and ultimately become Buddha.

International Buddhist Meditation Temple of New Zealand (Abbot Ven. Dong-in):
Abbot of International Buddhist Meditation Temple of New Zealand Ven. Dong-in and Ven. Hyedam granted scholarship to 10 Korean students (2 graduate, 2 undergraduate, 3 high school and 3 primary/secondary school students) for the Buddha’s Birthday. The recipients of this year’s scholarship were children of temple members who have been providing voluntary service for the temple community.

Abbot Ven. Dong-in mentioned that, “We have been providing warm hands to students as one of activities to propagate Buddha’s teaching overseas through applying Buddha’s most important teaching of charitable act to practice for expat Buddhists and New Zealanders.” Ven. Dong-in also requested the temple members to expand the recipient group to members of the wider society and also further develop the scholarship committe.

중남미와 오세아니아 지역에서 피어나는 한국불교의 원력 보시바라밀

브라질 진각사(주지 보장스님): 지난 6월 11일 일요법회에서 ‘제5회 진각사 장학금“ 수여식이 있었다. 한국인 학생 1명과 브라질 학생 2명에게 지급되었는데, 한국인 김준수 학생은 사려가 깊고 따뜻한 마음을 가지고 있으며 학업성적도 우수하고 부모님에 대한 효심이 깊다. 또한, 브라질 학생 중 Mateus 역시 배려심이 깊고 한국 불교를 알리는 통역사로 봉사뿐만 아니라 정진도 열심히 하며 학업성적도 우수하다. Carolina는 비록 듣지도 말도 못하는 장애를 가지고 있어도 학업 성적도 우수하고 쉽게 포기하지 않는 불굴의 학생으로, 정진도 열심히 하는 착한 마음을 가진 학생이다.

주지 보장스님은 “작지만 나누는 기쁨과 격려가 모두에게 힘이 되어 지혜의 길에서 부처님 되기를 두 손 모아 간절히 발원하다.”며 나날이 좋은 날 되길 축원했다.

뉴질랜드 환희정사(주지 동인스님): 환희정사 주지 동인스님과 지도법사 혜담스님은 1년간 난초를 재배하여 수익금의 일부를 교민 자녀 10명(대학원생2명, 대학생2명, 고교생3명, 초.중고생3명)에게 장학금으로 부처님오신날 전달했다. 올해의 수혜 대상자는 사찰을 위해 봉사하는 신도 자녀였다.

주지 동인스님은 “교민 불자들과 뉴질랜드 현지인들에게도 부처님의 가장 중요한 가르침인 보시바라밀의 실천을 통해 한국불교의 우수한 정신세계와 부처님의 가르침을 해외에서 널리 포교하는 일환으로 학생들에게 따뜻한 손길을 보내고 있다.”며 앞으로는 더욱더 폭넓은 대상자 선정과 함께 환희정사 장학회 발전에 많은 관심을 부탁했다.
